The Probe Wire Makes All the Difference
I picked up this 2-pack specifically for my laundry room and the cabinet under the kitchen sink. The main reason I chose this model over the standard “puck” sensors that just sit on the floor is the design of the wired probe.Because the sensor is on a 3-foot cable, I was able to mount the actual alarm unit higher up on the wall using the adhesive. This is a huge advantage for two reasons: one, the WiFi signal is much stronger up on the wall than it is buried behind a metal washing machine; and two, if a leak does happen, the expensive part of the electronics won’t immediately get submerged and ruined.Setup was standard for these types of devices—if you’ve ever used the “Smart Life” or “Tuya” app before, you know the drill. It requires 2.4GHz WiFi, so you might need to temporarily pause your 5GHz network during pairing, which is a minor annoyance but typical for smart home gear.I tested it with a wet finger, and the reaction time was solid. The notification hit my phone within about 5 seconds, and the physical siren is genuinely loud (130dB is startling), so you’ll definitely hear it if you’re home. My only critique is that I wish they used AA batteries instead of AAA for a bit more longevity, but if the standby time holds up, it’s a small gripe for cheap insurance against water damage.

Get one for every faucet, sink, toilet, shower, tub and any appliance that taps into water lines
One of the many headaches of home ownership is dealing with water damage. The most frustrating part is knowing that with a simple device, a small problem could’ve been stopped in its tracks before snowballing. This device is not only good at detecting leaks, it also gives peace of mind. Ideally you’d place this anywhere you may spend a leak–fortunately the price is reasonable enough that it wouldn’t make a terrible dent in your budget. When it detects a leak, it’ll emit a loud noise and send a push notification via Wi-Fi–no hub necessary. It’s a good product that’s easy to setup with no issue with Wi-Fi connections. Good value.

Easy Integration
These sensors were easy to get setup and integrated with my current smart home setup. They were also very easy to install in the location to be monitored. As soon as they were powered on, the Tuya app was able to find and add them. This is one of the easiest ways to add reasonably priced smart home sensors to my Home Assistant setup. Once they were in Tuya, they were also in Home Assistant, easy peasy. The main sensor box holds the batteries and acts as the speaker unit. It is slim and the included adhesive pad held it in place with no issue. From there, the sensor line wire runs and terminates in the actual water detection point. These sensors are easy to test, all you have to do in place the tip in moisture. During the test, I found that it only requires a few seconds to register the moisture and send an alert. The excellent response time means that a leak or flood barely has time to start before you are notified. All I had to do was find a good mounting placement and it was up and running. The biggest complaint I have is regarding the battery life. I have had the sensors connected for just about a month and a half and the battery is already at 50%. These sensors are currently in use at a vacation property. One of the reasons that smart home technology is so helpful is because in the winter, the property might be vacant for four to five months. If the battery dies during that time, we lose the security of being able to monitor the property in our absence. These sensors are a great value, they are easy to use at a very reasonable price point but the battery life could be improved.

Peace of mind
This water leak detectors work very well. I exposed the sensor to water and it immediately went off and alerted me through the Smart Life app. The app is very basic but I really like that it is compatible with the Smart Life app which I already have and doesn’t require any subscriptions. These smart sensors are extremely convenient to have because it gives me a peace of mind while I’m out of town. I’ve got one in my utility room with all the water lines and I will be putting one in my crawl space after I encapsulate it. If there is a water leak in a pipe in an encapsulated crawl space, it will flood it so these sensors will alert me before it ever becomes a major issue. The sensors use 2 AAA batteries and they claim that it has a 2 year battery life which I can’t verify. I have a temperature and humidity sensor which uses a built in Li-Ion battery and those indeed can go 2+ years on a single charge so I am optimistic that these will go 2 years on a set of alkaline batteries.

Detects Water Correctly, but Lights and Probe Setup Are Confusing, Not Enough Instructions
These leak detectors do trigger properly when they sense water, and the app alerts come through just fine. The siren is very loud, and the extended cable probe makes it easy to place the sensor in tighter spots like behind appliances. Once everything is connected, the basic function works as expected. The problem is that there is no clear explanation of what the indicator lights mean. The device shows a light or two on the front when pressing the button, but there is no guidance on how to interpret them. Also, no information about what the button does. It also does not explain the correct way to position the water probe, so I had to guess how to keep it standing straight up in order to detect leaks. A simple instruction sheet or a probe stand would make setup much easier. The detectors do work, and the app connection seems to be reliable. They just need better instructions for something as important as detecting water leaks. This product was provided to me through the Amazon Vine program for testing and feedback. My review reflects my honest experience with it, and my opinions were not influenced by the manufacturer or seller in any way.
