Very good
I use this sensor in my hallway to replace three of the smaller third reality sensors. This works absolutely great in home assistant, I’m able to set polling rate to 1 second! It has 180 degree detection which is great for the hallway, it even surpassed my expectations and seems to detect farther than 9.5m. A downside is this is not a presences sensor meaning if you stand still it will stop detecting you. Overall for a hallway its great for detecting when you don’t have an outlet near by.

Solid motion sensor, but not true “presence” detection
I picked up the ThirdReality mmWave sensor because I wanted something more reliable than the typical PIR motion detectors, especially for Home Assistant automations. On paper, mmWave sounds like the magic solution: longer range, less sensitive to heat or light changes, and fewer false alarms.Setup & Integration:Setup was painless. It’s Zigbee 3.0, so pairing with Home Assistant (ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT) worked right away. I like that you can tweak sensitivity and cooldown times. Battery reporting and firmware updates show up properly too.Performance:Range & Sensitivity: Much better than PIR. It detects motion even when you’re not right in front of it, and it’s less likely to miss you if the room temperature changes.False Alarms: Placement matters. Aim it wrong and you’ll catch movement you didn’t intend (like through an open doorway). The adjustable sensitivity helps, but you’ll probably spend some time tuning.Presence vs Motion: Important note — this is still a motion sensor, not a true presence sensor. If you sit perfectly still (like working at a desk), it will eventually time out and think you’re gone. Great for detecting when someone enters or leaves, not so great for occupancy.Battery Life: Runs on 3x AA batteries. The size is bulkier than most PIR sensors, but battery life seems good. Advertised at ~3 years — I’ll update if that holds true.Build & Extras:The unit is bigger than I expected (thanks to those AA’s), but it feels solid. There’s an LED indicator you can disable if you don’t want it glowing at night. Buttons on the back for sensitivity and pairing are simple and handy.Bottom line:For motion-based automations, this is a very solid upgrade over PIR sensors. It’s stable, integrates well with Home Assistant, and has the extra flexibility of mmWave detection. Just don’t expect it to replace a true presence sensor — it won’t reliably catch someone sitting still.

How to Use as a Motion Sensor or Presence Sensor.
This is a mmWave Sensor that operates like a Motion Sensor. It makes it a little confusing at first to get your desired results. This device can be both a Motion Sensor and a Presence Sensor. It all comes down to what the “Cooldown Time” is set to.Firstly, I installed the “3R-Installer” App on my iPhone and connected the ThirdReality Smart Motion Sensor R1. If you want this Sensor to preform like a Motion Sensor, change the Cooldown Time to 0 seconds. If you want this Sensor to preform like a mmWave Presence Sensor, change the Cooldown Time to 4 seconds. The “Motion Sensor” version will act and change fast. The “mmWave Presence Sensor” version will turn on, and stay on. This worked wonders for me, and I hope it helps anyone else out there to get the most out of this sensor.

Better options are available for slightly more money
Spend extra 20 dollars and get Hue Motion Sensor. This unit does not work when I am in front of it and there is no obstruction. But guess what—it triggers through the closed closet doors. No amount of adjustments made it perform reliably.Ended up getting a Phillips Hue Motion sensor to pair with ZHA in Home assistant.

No accessibility access, Reverse with Plus/Minus for the USA.
I’m totally blind. I got this to detect when people enter a stairwell to turn on a light and then turn it off. This sensor is square in shape. The sensor runs off of two batteries that are included. The sensor can be hung on a wall with a screw and I like that part about it. The sensor has two buttons on the top of it. The issue I have with this is being totally blind, I didn’t know what the plus and minus buttons whir being they aren’t marked with a razed plus and or Minus symble. You can tell this is an over seas model. Why! Is I found the plus is on the Left and the Minus is on the Right. Hear in the USA the Plus is normally on the Right side. The next issue I have with this being totally blind, I cannot tell how the sensativity is set being you cannot do that with a phone but have to use the buttons on the unit itself. This would be great if it had different tones for the different settings. Also being the 5 LED are slow close together, Can’t use my light detector to see what is lit or not.To reset the unit, you press and hold the Plus button (Left button) for 10 or so seconds, until the light starts flashing quickly. The light is ware the 5 or so holes are on the front of the unit as far as I can tell In using a light detector. Sound like you can press and hold the minus button(Top right) button for 3 seconds to turn off and on the Lights on the front of the unit.I did try this with an Echo Studio and it did connect up. However I found the Echo studio didn’t always pick up the Zigbee signal. Normal for an Echo of any type. So I next tried my old Samsng SmartThings hub and it also detected the sensor and I’ve been using it with it and that works much better.I in both cases had the sensor trigger one of two routines in Alexa to detect when motion detected and no motion to turn on and off the light. This looks to be much better then the old Per YoLink detector that I was using initially being bright light doesn’t impact it.Gave it 3 stars do to the total lack of any accessibility stuff built into the device at all.

Simple and effective! I’m pleased with the quality and functionality of ThirdReality products and their Zigbee support. This sensor if very reliable and I really like that it can detect me through my shower curtain – a motion sensor can’t do that. A very highly recommended sensor!

Dispositivo a funcionar muito bem. Rápido a executar as automatizações.

Works well as a motion detector. Has been very reliable in terms of connectivity on my otherwise fragile ZigBee network so very pleased in that regard. Like so many, I assumed it would be more sensitive to tiny movement with it being mm wave. It isn’t. So if your looking to detect presence, this isn’t the device you need. But if you’re looking for a reliable motion detector that takes proper batteries and doesn’t get triggered by car headlights, this works really well.
