One positive battery head goes on a spring: be sure to follow the markings
Almost always the negative flat side of a battery goes against the springs, and the positive side goes in the other direction. For this reason, usually you don’t need to read the hard-to-see markings of + and – on the plastic inside of the battery compartment: you just put the negative sides on the springs. I did that with this product and it wouldn’t turn on. Then I used a magnifier to read the markings, and that showed one of the positive sides should be against a spring. So I did that and it turned on, and works fine. The readings have been accurate, and it’s super easy to use. I only use it about twice a year, but I’ve had it for 2 years and it still works fine.

Reliable Readings with Some Limitations
Reliable Readings with Some LimitationsI’ve been using this CONTEC CMS50M fingertip pulse oximeter for a few weeks now, and it’s turned out to be a handy little tool for quick checks of oxygen saturation and pulse. The display is simple to read, and I like that it comes with a lanyard so it’s always easy to keep nearby. For the price, it delivers reasonably accurate readings when compared with hospital-grade monitors, which is reassuring.That said, it does have a few quirks. The finger clip feels a bit snug and plasticky, so if you’re using it frequently or for extended periods, it isn’t the most comfortable. Also, the readings can vary if your hands are cold or if you move around too much—so I’ve learned to stay still and warm up my fingers before using it. It doesn’t store past readings, so if you want to track trends you’ll need to jot them down separately.For casual home use—especially if you want reassurance during illness, recovery, or exercise—it’s a solid option. But I wouldn’t rely on it as a substitute for professional monitoring in serious medical situations.Bottom line: A budget-friendly and reasonably accurate pulse oximeter that’s best for quick spot checks, but not ideal for detailed long-term tracking or clinical-level reliability.

Consistency/accuracy is better than many
During these pandemic times I’ve gotten a few of oximeters and several read low, such as 93-95%. I then read an NIH (National Institute of Health) article in which various brands of oximeters were tested and, sure enough, many oximeters fall we’ll short of accuracy. Why have one if it’s not useful? The Contec brand came up favorably and this model was of the same type so I got it. Indeed it reads very consistently as I try it with different members of my family. If you’re going to get an oximeter, I recommend getting this one. I didn’t care much about the price but this one also comes in at a lower price than the less accurate ones.

Wildly inaccurate. If my Oxygen level was at the level reported by this product I’d be in the hospital being incubated or writing my will out.The battery holder orientation is also wrong with 1 battery needing to be inserted opposite to the accepted practice.Don’t waste your money like I did, spend a little more and buy something approved that you can trust.
